Prof. XU Genjun, a prestigious biochemist with the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (IBCB), the CAS Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences. Xu graduated from Chemistry Department, Fudan University in 1957. Since then he had worked in IBCB. He was elected a CAS Member 1991, and president of Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2001. Xu made major constitutions to total chemical synthesis of bovine insulin, a world-class feat. And he was a pacesetter in China's enzyme catalysis and the biosynthesis, structures and functions of protein.
