The Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Network (A-IMBN) is an Asian life scientists' organization and is dedicated to bring together the leading minds and institutions in the region to work towards ensuring that the economies in the Asia and the Pacific Rim will find themselves always at the cutting edge of new developments in biotechnology, to promoting the development of molecular biology and biotechnology throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (IBCB), Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is one of the supporting institutions of A-IMBN, and is also one of the leading research institutions in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology in China. Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology has begun an initiative to complement and strengthen existing programs aiming at developing an internationally renowned institution in life sciences. As part of this initiative, an international program, A-IMBN-IBCB Professorship and unit lab (A-IMBL) were created in 2005 and through one year preparation starts to operate from 2007 till 2011.
The A-IMBL is founded as a component part of A-IMBN and ICGEB and is an independent unit located in IBCB, Shanghai, China. The A-IMBL is committed to promoting the development of scientific and technical excellence amongst scientists and Institutions dedicated to molecular biology and genetic engineering research and biotechnology, with particular focus on Asia and Pacific Rim. The laboratory will encourage the scientific collaboration of over the world; encourage the scholars to study in the lab; and run the various academic activities named by IMBN (ICGEB). The research carried out in A-IMBL should satisfy with requirements in specialty of IMBL, IBCB, ICGEB and the biomedical development of Shanghai Municipal Government.
